Moreover, she likes it!

Louise Brooks, “The American Venus”, was probably (my grandfather) George Preston Marshall’s favorite girlfriend.  He treated her rough, but she was used to it, and it did have its brighter side. She’d been a chorine, a Denishawn dancer, a Ziegfeld folly, and a George White scandal by the age of nineteen, and by the time she met Marshall, already had a Hollywood-boosted reputation for masochism. It’s her nickname I’m having trouble with; I think it was “The Bobsy Girl”. Marshall was big, handsome, rich, famous, and over the top charismawise, and they both liked crossing the continent any way imaginable; train was best.  Hollywood and Washington, D.C. have a lot in common.  They’re America’s most American cities. (But Philly’s more real, and Miami’s more comfortable.)  Here’s a webpage I haven’t finished reading yet, but I’m already sure I’ll like it: Vanities
